"Yes as in your normal one… why would you be more comfortable in the shallow end?" He said as he started to backstroke still keeping an eye on her. Maybe this was a bad idea trying to tech an ld dog new tricks. Even though she wasn't a dog and he hoped that she would improve, unlike his pathetic attempts at trying to learn to play pool with Crissy. He could teach her right? How hard could it be seeing as he had worked as a lifeguard before this trying to teach little kids to swim? Though they had floaties and they were in the shallow end.
"You know front stroke back stokre… breast… fly… whatever your normal thing is I want to see it." He pushed off the edge of the pool as he began to swim towards her again stopping as he started to tread water again… "doggie…."

She could feel the faint warmth of a blush on her cheeks as she started feeling rather stupid for asking that question. Maybe normal people knew more about this than she did. After all, it had been kind of self-explanatory. Well, she was just the coolest thing since sliced bread. She certainly hoped that she wasn't being thought of as an old dog. Because she wasn't one. She could learn things. She was just never taught much about this before. There weren't many people overly excited about swimming in New York. Everyone up there was all business. It was just the world she was raised in.
"No, thanks. I can go into the deep end. I don't need my floaties today, mom." She might have said that with a bit more sarcasm than she had intended, but she was still feeling awkward and dumb. She figured she would have to get over it, though.
Biting her lip once again, she hesitated. Maybe it had been a bad idea to ask him to help her. But since she had gotten him to do it, she would stick to it. "Okay, but don't laugh or anything." She hoped that, to spare her any more embarrasement, that he would keep his amused sounds to himself. She rolled her eyes at the mention of the Doggie Paddle. She was pretty sure she had that one mastered back in the third grade.
Leaning over, she swam towards him and into the deep end. It wasn't like she couldn't keep herself afloat. But it would have been much easier if she could touch the ground every once in a while. Well, she supposed her muscles would be getting the work out they needed.

Ollie figured the best approach would be to do what he did with the kids, though that was with the intermediate class she was intermediate sorta. More like a girl that never learned how to properly swim though with his help he would try and fix that. "You sure about the floaties? I can run and get some if you need." Ollie said in a joking tone as he started to swim back wards seeing as she was going towards him.
He didn't really know what to tell her she need to use her legs more but the best teaching technique would be to have her correct her own mistakes with just minor pointers from him. Darwinism at work in the pool… she would adapt and this become a better swimmer. "Kick with your legs a bit more and for now don't even worry about the proper breathing just keep your head out of the water. Just swim towards me…" He drifted back a bit further not wanting to give off the image that he was an impossible goal to reach, as he would allow her to reach him eventually.
"You have the potential to be a good swimmer you just never taught the right way."

She resisted the urge to throw him a dirty look. Hopefully if she didn't respond, he would move on to a different subject. She concentrated on not "flailing" her arms as he had so eloquently put it earlier. She thought that she might be doing it right, but then again she wasn't watching herself so she didn't know. Hopefully he would be the supportive kind of teacher and not dwell on the negatives of her performance. She hated teachers who were like that. It was hard to progess in something when you were only being told of your faults.
She did what he told her, trying to make her legs have a little more power. It wasn't too difficult to keep her head out of the water, but it was a little bit awkward. Perhaps she would learn more about it in phase two. Or something.
Oh wait, was that something supportive he was saying? Indeed it was. She felt a bit better knowing that he was trying to be nice. She finally reached him and turned herself back upright. "That wasn't too terrible was it?" she asked, genuine curiosity at his reaction in her eyes.

"It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either… lets keep going. " He said with a smile as he swam away with easy over to the other side of the pool near the shallow end. Oliver hand never grown up in a world where people weren’t good swimmers, they weren’t as good as him but still. It was weird to see her, a woman, struggling to swim like this and he really wanted to help.
"You are good but I think the shallower water might be better, this why I don't have to play superman and save you. Oh yeah I am secretly a superhero." Though she was cute and he wouldn't mind continuing more of these private lessons for a little reward. Maybe a casual dinner or lunch just to hang out with her and talk, he was sure he had seen her around with a guy and he only assumed it was her boyfriend the way she acted around him.
That was fine though he could never have enough girl friends as they made life interesting and very popular.
