Melissa's smile widened. Well, at least one of them wasn't overly analytical. She didn't like doing things on a whim. She mostly had to think about it first. It was a sort of obsessive compulsive part about her. She had never been overly adventurous, just a tad too scared to try anything that could cause ehr immense physical pain. She was rather far from being a masochist, and so pain was very low on her favorite things list.
She was almost shocked by his question. Not one to be all gung ho to jump off of things, Melissa had never been bungee jumping. There was always that possibility that the bungee cord would snap or she would go flying very painfully into the bridge that she had jumped off of. Hey, she'd seen it happen. Well, not in person, but on tv. It wasn't something she'd want to try any time soon.
"Wow, really? I don't know if I'd ever want to do that."
Searching in her brain, Melissa tried to remember something that she had done that could be considered crazy. A few not so crazy things passed through her mind such as jumping into the pool with her clothes on, or playing ding dong ditch when she was younger. Finally she found something worthy. "Well, I stood up to a school bully one time." she figured he probably wouldn't find this very crazy at all, but at the time she had been terrified. "She had been teasing my friend all day. It was getting on my nerves so I said something to her. I, um, went home early with a bloody nose because of that." she laughed at the memory, hoping he didn't think her an idiot. Getting punched by a large girl had not been fun.

Nathan had to grimace. He lifted up his hand and touched his nose with it. “Ouch. But she didn’t bother you or your friend since that right?” He figured to ask. No, it hadn’t been the most craziest thing she might have done but it sure was the bravest. At least in his book it was.
He had encountered a bully once or twice in his life but nothing was done directly at him. But then again, confronting a bully was something he had still yet to do. He was sure there were none here at college. He believed that they were all adults there. At least that was what he thought and what he wanted to believe.
His thoughts drifted towards Melissa’s best friend. Surely Dominic would not mind if he hung out with her right? It wasn’t like he some devious intentions towards the girl. Seriously though, if the guy didn’t see Melissa like Nathan was seeing her, it would his loss. Heck if only Nathan had the courage to do it, he’d ask her out. Even if for just one date.

A devious smirk formed on Melissa's face. "No, she didn't. Let's just say I wasn't the only one who walked out of there with open wounds." The girl was proud of what she had done. It had been scary at the time, to be confronting someone like that. But she had actually gotten in a few good swings. After that, Melissa had been respected a bit more around her school.
So far, all of the people Melissa had come across were at least semidecent people. She was lucky to have not met the less mature of the school. Of course, Ian Roberts could never actually be known as mature but there were far worse. She was sad to say that even her brother could use a healthy dose of maturity. Maybe then he would take his schooling more seriously.
Melissa knew that Dominic's behavior had never been overly jealous. He wouldn't care if she was hangng out with other guys. At least she figured he wouldn't. She was comfortable with him hanging out with other girls. Well, as long as they kept a good enough space between them. And he didn't sing to them. Or make them laugh too much. Or - wow, maybe she wasn't as cool with that as she had first thought.
Nathan was a nice enough boy, Melissa could tell just by the little time that she had known him. She wasn't sure just how she would react, though, if he asked her out. It was true that he was attractive, but the girl didn't judge by looks alone. She was hesitant, however, when it came to havign a relationship. She usually needed to know the person for a long time before she would go down that road. She had some trust issues with letting peple too deep. A result of losing both her mother and her brother when she was younger.
"So, have you thought of that crazy thing we're supposed to be doing yet?"

"So, have you thought of that crazy thing we're supposed to be doing yet?"
Nathan shrugged. Ah yes, that. Maybe he shouldn’t have suggested that in the first place. Now he was stuck with thinking what to actually suggest. A soft laugh escaped his lips.
“Not really?” He stated rather than asked. Nathan finally stepped down from the fountain and made a beeline towards her. “It’s kinda hard when you’re not actually bursting with crazy ideas.” He added as he offered a rather sheepish smile. How come he couldn’t be spontaneous enough to think of something? Maybe that was his problem?
“How about we just have I don’t know, coffee instead? At least that’s safer.” He suggested before smiling at her.
“At least that way, you wouldn’t have to worry about bungee cord snapping and such.”
A goofy smile graced his lips. Of course he was teasing her in a way. He just couldn’t help it. And hopefully she didn’t mind as well.
(ooc - sorry for the short post. my muse currently needs poking i swear.)

She gave a smirk as she could tell what his answer was going to be. He'd probably just suggested doing something crazy on a whim and hadn't actually thought it through. Melissa often did things like that. She prided herself on asking questions first but sometimes her insticts just had a life of their own and pretty much controlled her body. It was something she was trying to work on. She didn't want to end up getting in trouble for it. Though, she was not really the spontaeous kind, and if someone asked her to think of something crazy to do right on the spot, she'd not have a clue.
"That's okay. I'm not much on the crazy stuff at the moment, anyway." she laughed. She'd sort of been a bit scared when he'd first said something, hoping he didn't come up with something that involved potential pain. That was never the best type of situation to be in.
She cocked her head to the side a little, mulling it over. She loved coffee, and she hadn't had her daily fix yet. It sounded like a good idea. "Sure." she replied with a warm smile. She laughed at his next comment. "That is very true. I think coffee is a little less dangerous than dangling from a bridge."

At least he hadn’t gone wrong with his choice. Almost everybody loved coffee. Almost. He had this one friend back home that didn’t take a liking towards the beverage. He had asked him why but all he got as an answer was, because I just don’t. Nathan just accepted it. It wasn’t like he really had to know his reason right?
Taking his camera, Nathan stuffed it inside his book bag that was slung over his shoulder. Smiling, he sauntered his way towards her and offered his arm.
“Shall we?” He stated rather than asked really.
When she took his arm, he began to guide her away from the fountain.
“I’m buying by the way. No buts. Just think of it as a thank you for helping me out that day when I got ridiculously lost.”
He could still remember what happened that fateful day. He had been trying to keep himself form having a panic attack. Because if he did, he’d just end up more confused not to mention more embarrassed by the situation. Who the heck gets lost in Hastings anyway? Ah yes. That would be him. Nathan Larson. Freshman. Shaking his head slightly, he was seriously amused by the thought.

Coffee was practically a way of life for the young girl. It had been a large part of her daily routine back home in New York. That place was fast paced that it took all the caffeine she could get to keep up. Not that she minded. Life was much more interesting when one was doing many things. She liked being busy. It was better than being bored. She had too much energy for that. It made her go insane when there was nothing to do.
She giggled as he held out his arm. Playing along, she took it. "Why certainly." she said. Wasn't he quite the gentleman. For some odd reason this reminded her of the movie Titanic when Jack and Rose had gone off to that elite dinner in the first class dining room. Though that comparison was hardly right. She and Nathan weren't in love. And not on a ship doomed to sink to the bottom of the atlantic ocean. She was thankful for the latter.
She opened her mouth to protest, but bit her lip against it. She had a feeling that arguing would get her nowhere. Though it was absurd, really, that he felt he needed to repay her for it. She was always happy to help someone. Especially when they were lost. She hated the feeling of being lost. It was just dreadful.

Nathan continued to make his way towards the general direction of where the nearest coffee shop was. If there was anything Melissa had been, it had been that she was helpful. In more ways than one. Because of her, he had manage to find his way around the campus. Because of her, he was a few friends richer. And because of her, the feeling of missing his old friends was lessened. It was still there but she somehow made things more bearable. For that he was thankful. He was sure she had no idea how much her friendship meant to him. And he was determined to keep and make it blossom. Of course not in that romantic kind of way.
“Hey do you know that senior girl? Uhh… Rachel Parker?”
He took a chance at throwing a glance at her. Ah yes. That blonde goddess he had seen down at the park. No. He wasn’t going to do anything about his silly crush on the girl. But that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to ask around. The least he could do was learn something about her. From other people that is. He wasn’t that gutsy. He sure he was but he wasn’t and that wasn’t going to change anytime soon.

It was true that Melissa didn't realize how much her friendship meant to Nathan. She valued all of her friends, so she could understand that it was important, but she didn't think she had made that much of an impact on the boy. It was nice when people were glad to have her around. She liked feeling wanted, as most people did. She was just a people person in that she loved being around them and was grateful for all the people that she knew. Well, almost all of them.
She looked back at him at his question. The name did not ring a bell. "No, I don't believe so." she answered. Her mind flickered back to a few minutes ago when they had been talking about crushes. Could it be that hewas actually going to confess his crush to her? Maybe, but she wasn't going to pry. It would be rude to do so. "Then again, I'm not familiar with many of the Seniors just yet."
Her gaze went back to the ground as they continued to walk. She realized that she was very comfortable in the moment. She didn't feel like she had to keep her guard up or watch what she was saying around him. That was good. She never much liked the feeling of being self-conscious.

Please say yes. Please say yes. Nathan repeated that silently in his head like it was some sort of mantra or something. At least this way he was actually getting to know the person without having to face her. Yeah. He was a certified coward. Chicken. Or whatever you want to call that.
"No, I don't believe so."
Nathan breathed in deep silently and exhaled the air out softly. Oh crap. There goes his hope of knowing at least one fact about that elusive girl. Okay well maybe not elusive but yeah. Ugh. He was hopeless that much he already concluded.
"Then again, I'm not familiar with many of the Seniors just yet.
He nodded in response. Well if she was trying to make him feel better it worked. Even for just a little bit. And he was glad that she hadn’t pried. Okay well maybe he was expecting her to pry. He had been wanting to talk about this silly crush of his to someone and she seemed like the perfect candidate. At least that was what he thought.
“Oh yeah. I just figured I’d ask. I mean I saw her during the weekend down at the park. And she seemed… nice.”
Nathan had to look down and close his eyes at the ramble he just made. He mentally kicked himself. She seemed nice? What in hells bells was that? Ah yes. He was hopeless alright.

As she shifted her gaze back at the boy, she couldn't help but notice that he looked dissapointed by the fact that she didn't know her. She didn't know why, but it made her wish that she did know the girl. Just so she could answer any question that he might have about her. Melissa didn't want to make him sad, after all. She wasn't being much of a friend if she wasn't helping him out in a situation like this. She bit her lip in frustration, finding that she was dissapointed in herself for not knowing her.
She cocked her head to the side. Curiosity was starting to get the best of her. She could only bite her tongue for so long if it was going the direction she thought it was. "Nice, huh? In what way?" She figured that if he wanted to spill his girly little secrets, then he would, but if he didn't she didn't want to seem annoying.
She quickly checked the way they were headed and realized that they were already in town. Pretty soon they would get to the coffee shop and Melissa could settle her nerves with a nice hot cup of that wonderful liquid. She had failed to mention to Nathan that if she got too much caffeine, then she could be a little loopy, but she wasn't planning to overdose or anything, so she didn't need to reveal this weakness. It really wasn't her fault. Sometimes, she just couldn't stop drinking it. She was beginningto fear that she was addicted to caffeine. Not a good thing.

"Nice, huh? In what way?"
Of course she was going to ask. And he couldn’t blame her for that. He was the one who brought it up in the first place. Nathan could feel the small blush creeping up his neck towards his cheek. Thinning his lips, he bobbed his head slightly as he let out a rather nervous soft chuckle.
“Yeah she’s nice. Like… nice… nice…”
The nineteen year old grimaced as he looked away making sure the other teen didn’t saw his face. Nice, nice? What in the world was that? Couldn’t he come up with something more intelligent to say other than nice? Like she was a goddess perhaps? Ugh. It was useless and like it had been said earlier he was hopeless. And lame.
Pressing his lips, he sucked it up and finally turned to look at Melissa. He offered her a smile. Yeah. Put on that game face. Because at that point that was all he could do. Pretend. Like he wasn’t fumbling on the conversation.

"Nice, nice?" she asked, resisting the urge to snort. It seemed he was having trouble describing her. That was a surefire sign that he liked her more than just a friend. Melissa's grin widened at this. She looked away, biting her lip as she did so. It was kind of cute to see something like this. She figured there was a way that she could get to know this girl. Maybe she would try and help her into liking Nathan. He was a pretty cool guy after all, and not unattractive. She was actually kind of surprised that he didn't already have a girlfriend. Or a line of them. The world was a strange place.
She looked back at the boy with a grin. "Don't worry about it. I'm sure you'll have her eating out of the palm of your hand in no time." she winked, trying to convey that she wanted to keep the mood light. It would be bad if bringing up the subject made him embarrassed or uncomfortable. This was supposed to be a happy time. She hated being in awkward situations and so she was going to try to keep this one as far away from awkward as possible.

"Don't worry about it. I'm sure you'll have her eating out of the palm of your hand in no time."
Nathan had to scoff in retort to her remark. He shook his head in disagreement. Clearly, Melissa didn’t know him that well. “I highly doubt that Mel…” He said to her. Admittedly, he really didn’t have any guts to confess his feelings towards any girl he was crushing on let alone ask someone on a date.
As the café came into view, a small smile made its way to his lips. He swore he could already smell its wonderful fragrance. He turned to look at the girl that was walking beside him.
“Besides, I heard she’s already a senior. I don’t think she’s crazy enough to give a freshman a second look.”
Ugh. There goes his pessimism rearing its ugly head for her to see. Hopefully she wouldn’t be fazed by it. Why did he have to be so… scared when it came to dating? Nathan had no problems with making friends with the female species. In fact, he had no problems with hanging with the lot of them. He can mingle and talk and all that with all of his friends but when it came to his crushes and such he couldn’t find that courage to speak or do anything for that matter. It was just so weird. At least for him it was. It was highly possible that other people think it was plain lame.
