"I know mom. Yeah, I'm doing good. I'm just hanging out right and hoping I'd get a few good shots before I go back to my dorm. No, don't pass the..."
Letting out an exasperated sigh, Nathan closed his eyes and silently counted to ten. He heard a muffled screaming of some sort and rustling of the phone as if it been going through some sort of wrestling. At that point he figured it would be his sisters. After a few seconds, Nadine's voice came through. Of course she won. She was the oldest, she always won. Nathan had to smile at that.
"Hey yourself. I'm fine. You know what would be easier instead of struggling? Speaker. No I'm not being a smart aleck, it was just a suggestion..."
The conversation went on for another thirty minutes before he finally hung up. Nathan chuckled softly as he pushed the end call button. His family had the tendency to go overboard with checking up on him. He had to be the only one who has a family who considered calling him up a family occasion of some sort. It was crazy, to say the least. He stuffed his cellphone inside his jacket pocket before turning his attention to the camera he was holding. Lifting it up, he adjusted the lens as he aimed for the famous fountain of Hastings University.

Homework, homework, and oh yeah, homework. Melissa Jameson was positively going crazy. She had set aside this day to get all of her homework of the week done, even the four to six page papers. She hadn't realized how much work that really was. She was going positively stir crazy. So, after what seemed like eternity but was actually about four hours, she decided to take a break. She stretched her aching fingers. Typing that much was bound to give her arthritis or something. She was tempted to make a complaint to the school board, but realized that actually writing would be much more difficult.
With a feeling of relief, she left her dorm and traveled through the school, wandering around the halls, no real destination in mind. For once that day she wasn't feeling any pressure ot get something done. It felt nice. Almost like lifting a weight off of her shoulders. She was going to have to find a better way to get her homework done. Doing it all in one lump wasn't the best way to go.
Pushing open the double doors, Melissa wandered outside. She inhaled the fresh air gratefully. Searching the grounds, she wanted to go somewhere she hadn't been before. As her eyes fell upon the Gardens, she smiled. That was a perfect place. She figured she would go to the Fountain and make a wish or something.
She entered it, marvelling at the green thumb that the caretaker had. He was really quite good at keeping this place up. She stopped to smell the roses, literally, and a few other sorts of flowers before going deeper in. As she drew close to the fountain, she heard voices. No, one voice. Talking to itself, it seemed. Melissa almost smacked herself in the forehead when she realized that the person was probably on the phone.
Turning a corner, she reached the fountain and found someone she knew standing in front of it with a camera held up. "Oh, hey Nate." she said casually, walking over to him. "Getting any good pictures?"

Click. Click.
With an intention to take a few more, Nathan took a step forward. His attempt though was halted when a rather familiar voice reached his ear.
"Oh, hey Nate."
Nathan straightened and turned to look at Melissa with a smile. "Hey yourself."
"Getting any good pictures?"
He turned to look down at his camera and shrugged slightly. Apart from the couple he took of the fountain, there were a good set of pictures of the different flowers that adorned the surrounding area. He pushed a button a few times and showed the small screen to her.
"Not sure if those can be considered good but hey, it's worth a try. And my mom absolutely adores them. I swear she acts like she hasn't seen any flowers before in her life everytime I email her files."
Yeah, his mother was a fan of his work. Whatever that was. Hah. Not that he was complaining or anything. At least someone liked his so called "work". Tearing his eyes from the screen, he lifted up his eyes to look at her.
"So where's Robin the Boy Wonder?"

She walked over to him, casually as he greeted her back. She realized that she hadn't spent much time with this boy, but she could consider him one of her better friends. She did figure, though, that they would be seeing a lot of each other in the next four years. After all, Hastings was only so big. Besides, she liked his photographs.
She leaned in closer as he moved to show her the pictures that he had taken of the area. Her smile widened as she got a look at a few of them. She had to say that she liked his style. In her opinion, they were very good. Of course, her opinion didn't count a whole lot when it came to selling the pictures to a company or something, but it stood for moral support. Which was good enough for right now.
She laughed at his comment. "Yes, mothers are like that. Mine was too. She was always overreacting when I got a good grade or when I landed a move in ballet." Her smile wavered for a second at the memory of her mother. It was qucikly returned, though, knowing that it would do no good to be getting upset right now. It would just cause pointless misery, and Melissa preffered to be happy.
The girl knew how Nathan felt, when he thought that what he did wasn't work. Melissa often felt that way about her writing. She didn't understand how something that caused her so much joy would be considered work.
She snorted at his next comment. "Robin, eh?" she quickly got a mental picture of her best friend in the infamous Robin suit and couldn't help a giggle. That was a hilarious image. "Oh, I don't know. He's probably off somewhere making music."

Nathan nodded. He'd seen them together quite a few times already. That first day that she had introduced her so-called bestfriend, he had that impression that they were more than friends. He had wisely kept that to himself but he couldn't help but be curious. He couldn't see why no one could. They looked good together.
"How long have you known him anyway? If you don't mind me asking."
He adjusted the camera settings again before he lifted it up to eye level and aimed it at her. Without even telling or warning her, he pushed the button and took a few shots. She was beautiful. He hoped she knew that. Heck if he didn't notice the chemistry between her and the boy wonder he'd ask her out. Hah. Right. Like he would really do that.

It was true that Melissa and Dominic were around each other a lot. She just simply enjoyed his company. He was crazy and funny and so talented. It wasn't a wonder that she felt the way she did about him. Nathan may have realized that they seemed like more than friends, but Melissa wasn't sure if it would ever be like that. Sure, she wanted it, but she was pretty sure that he only thought of her as his friend and nothing more. What a shame it was.
"Oh, wow." she said, searching in her memory for the first time she'd seen Dominic. "Um, it was back in eighth grade, I think. Yeah. I knew his cousin and he came down for a visit." memories of that day flashed through her mind, but were pushed out when she suddenly saw a bright light. Focusing back on the boy in front of her, she realized that he had just taken her picture.
She suddenly felt very self-conscious. Melissa never did like her own pictures. She supposed she was just too judgemental of her appearance. Nevertheless, she went off of her first instinct and gave a sweet smile before the flash went off again. She figured that she may as well pose if he was going to be taking pictures of her.
"Now, you know that's only fair if you let me take pictures of you, too. Even if I'm not an expert like you are." she gave a devilish smirk.

Nathan laughed softly as he pulled the camera away from him. "Yeah sure. I mean it is only fair." He replied to her. It didn't really bother him if anyone took his picture. If anything he always had fun posing and the likes. Ask his friends. Among them, he had the one who had the most pictures. Actually he wondered why.
He handed her the camera. "Just don't ask me to take my clothes off. It's not in my contract." He said to her before grinning smugly.
Raking his hand through his hair, he looked at her. "Don't hate me for asking but you and Dominic never dated? I'm just curious you know. I mean, you really look good togther."

She hadn't been sure that he was actually going to let her take pictures of him, but he seemed kind of eager. It was funny. He was rather attractive, so she wasn't expecting him to try and run away from the thought of his picture being taken. She just didn't know that he liked it so much. Usually the person who operates behind the lens likes to keep it that way. It was cool, though, and she didn't hesitate to take the camera from him when he held it out to her.
She laughed ath is comment. "Oh, darn. I was so hoping." she aimed the camera and took a picture before he spoke again.
Melissa almost dropped the camera from surprise. That was the last thing she had expected him to ask her. She wasn't sure if she was blushing, but she could feel her face begin to get warm. Trying to act cool, she shook her head. "No. We've never dated." Even she could hear the dissapointment in her voice. "We're just friends."

Nathan slightly squinted his eyes and knitted his brows when he heard the last part she said. He didn't mean to pry but she sure sounded like she was really disappointed her and Dominic were just friends. He took a step forward.
"I swear you sound disappointed."
He stated softly. Nathan tilted his head as he looked at her. "Have you tried telling him how you feel?" He asked her. Wow. They weren't actually that close but somehow he couldn't help but help her. Huh. He really should practice what he preached. He knew how hard telling how you feel to somehow could be. He had been there and done that.

She held the camera awkwardly, not sure if she wanted to take another picture, but after a second, she lifted it up once again and clicked the button right as he told her that she sounded dissapointed. Biting her lip, she brought it down again. Had she really been that obvious? She hoped she wasn't like that when she was around Dominic. She didn't want him to get too suspicious. Though, by now, he had to have some idea.
"Well, I-" she stopped as he spoke again. So she was that obvious. She needed to work on her acting skills. Maybe Nathan was just a very observant person. But something told her that that wasn't it. He had seen them together on more than one occasion, so maybe it was the way she acted around him. She hoped it wasn't too disgusting. She knew some people who acted like idiots around their crush and she certainly hoped she wasn't one of them.
She shook her head. "No." Hesitating, she continued. "I don't think he feels the same way. Besides, I'm sure you know how hard it is to admit something like that. You can't tell me you've never had a crush on anyone before."

"I don't think he feels the same way. Besides, I'm sure you know how hard it is to admit something like that. You can't tell me you've never had a crush on anyone before."
Oh crap. He was hoping that she wouldn't throw the situation back at him, because he knew he had no choice but to face the fact and admit to himself that he was just like her. Not that it was a very bad thing or anything. Nathan huffed as he looked down and lifted up his hand to scratch the back of his head.
"Well, you totally got me there..." He replied to her softly.
Letting his hand fall back down to his side he shrugged. "Can't really go down that route when I don't do it myself huh?" He actually stated rather asked. It really boiled down to one thing: Practice what you preach. Exhaling loudly he stuffed his hands inside his pockets and looked back at her.
"I was just trying to help is all."

She gave a small laugh at that. "I'm sure I have most people with that. Explaining your feelings is just...hard. Especially when there's a high chance of rejection." Yes, she was reffering to herself. She knew Dominic loved her as a friend, but that was all. She knew he deserved better than her, anyway. She was a very imperfect person. Then again, she knew that nobody was perfect, but still.
Cocking her head to the side in a curious manner, she asked him a question. "Is there a certain special someone as of right now?" It seemed to her like he was talking as if he was currently in the same situation. Though she doubted it was his best friend that he had fallen for. It didn't make it any easier, though.
She offered him a half-smile. "Thanks."she said genuinly. "Though, I don't think there's anything that can be helped with that."

"Is there a certain special someone as of right now?"
Nathan shook his head rather too quickly. He regretted it. He didn't want to come off as very defensive. It wasn't like he knew anybody at Hastings well enough to be smitten. Having someone back home was another story though. He felt a small blush creep up his cheeks.
"No. Not really. I mean back home there's this girl that I've been friends with for a long time but yeah. Everytime I pick up the phone or finally decide to ask her out I chicken out. It's really pathetic actually."
He laughed softly as he shook his head. This was something new to him, discussing openly about his rather lack of skills specially when it came to the dating department. Saying that he needed help would be a total understatement.
Nathan sighed softly. "We should talk about something else yeah?" He suggested. He moved towards the fountain and hoped on the edge.
"Let's do something crazy. Something we've never done before. Could be fun"

She noticed that he shook his head a bit too quickly. Her suspicions arose at this, but she decided not to pry. It really wasn't her business if he didn't want to tell her. Then again, it might just be that he didn't like anyone. Well, maybe that would change as the year went on. He was the type who deserved to be happy, after all.
So, there wasa girl back home? Maybe it was for the better that he never asked her out. Long-distance relationships were never fun. They were a lot of hard work. At least that was what she had heard. The closest thing she had ever had to a long-distance relationship was her friendship with Dominic. But, she assumed that was much easier to manage than love. "Aw, it's not pathetic. Maybe you'll be able to say something one day." So, maybe she wasn't the best at giving support, but she tried.
She laughed. "Sure." she wouldn't mind talking about something other than failed attempts at asking someone else out. No one liked that sort of conversation. What he did next took her off guard a little bit. Her eyebrow went up as she watched him jump onto the fountain.
"What exactly do you have in mind?" she asked. She hoped it didn't involve jumping into the fountain. She was pretty sure that wter was not the cleanest.

Nathan shrugged at that. A soft chuckle escaping passed his lips as he looked at her.
"I haven't really gotten that far."
He replied back to her. He was up for anything. Well a good anything that is. As far as his wild side was concerned, the most insane he had done was go bungee jumping. Nathan wasn't really the type who would try something that was uncomfortable with. He wasn't like that.
"What's the most craziest thing you've ever done anyway?" He figured to ask.
"Mine's bungee jumping." He didn't want her to get the wrong idea about him. So he figured he'd let her know how he defined crazy. It was better that she knew what he meant other than being dubbed as someone he was clearly not.
