September 13th, about 9pm. A soundless yawn passed through the Juniors lips as he stared at the book that had been in front of him for what seemed liked years. Though as Chris looked up at the clock he realized it's only been a mere couple of hours. Maybe it was the fact that he'd been studying the same approach to reporting your case in court for the past hour. Usually it was this difficult for him to move onto the next approach or next method but tonight he was having a hard time focusing.
Chris sighed letting the book slip out of his grib, resting on the other books he'd picked out when he first entered the Library a few hours before. He rubbed his eyes, then ran a hand through his hair. Deciding on a small, but much needed break he leaned back in his chair and picked up a novel he'd been working on since the beginning of term. Of course school work took more priority over the recreational book but nonetheless he still got to read a few chapters here and there.
Turning to his book mark that held his mark at page 250 of 706. Wild Fire was his current side project and after reading the first three novels of the series he wasn't about to pass up on the chance to read the last one.
After reading another two chapters Chris figured he should hit the text books once again, but this time he moved towards filling his brain with civil rights procedures so that his professor would be satisfied with his next test score. Flipping to the required reading for the week his eyes started scanning over the words as he emerged himself in his texts once again.

Why was she headed to the library so late at night? One might argue that the girl was passionate. Some would just call her strange. Either way, she was on a trip to the school library for a bit of late studying. It wasn't like she hadn't done her fair share of it over the past few days, but that whole perfectionist thing just would not let her rest. Perhaps as the school year went on, she would begin to relax in her studying habits. Melissa wasn't sure if she would be able to keep this entire pace for a whole year. Much less four. But for now, she was just trying to get into the groove things at this school.
Walking, and truthfully almost bouncing down the hallway, Melissa found the library and entered it. Her bright eyes looked around the room, finding it almost empty. She wasn't surprised given the time of day. A few students were scattered here and there, most of which looked rather tired. A small smile made its way to Melissa's lips. This was her element.
She hummed to herself as she made her way to the bookshelves to find a certain book for her English class. It wasn't hard for Melissa to get distracted in a room so full of books, and it wasn't surprising when a title caught her eye on a shelf that was nowhere near the section she was headed. She lifted the book up, opening it to reveal the pages inside. She'd read this book before. Skimming a few of the pages, she closed hte book and returned it to it's spot on the shelf.
It was on to the non-fiction section to find some wholesome English-based reading. Yippee. But, once again, she was distracted. Passing a table, her eyes were drawn yet again to another title. A boy at one of the tables not only was surrounded by text books, but he had a book she actually knew. Before she knew what she was doing, she spoke to him. It was totally unlike her to just randomly strike up conversation with someone. Especially someone who was studying. Maybe she was just more tired than she'd realized.
"Wild Fire. I love that series." her eyes grew wide as she realized what she'd just done. She'd talked to someone she didn't know. And it was someone who looked to be older than her. Maybe her brother's age. "Sorry." she immediatly followed. "I just noticed you had a book that I enjoy." She really hoped she wasn't blushing.

Chris yawned slighlty, it was barely just the beginning of another year here and he was already into a steady study habit. It wasn't like he was trying to improve his study habits, it was just that he didn't want to fall behind at all.
Even as Chris read the more challening words and sentences of the Civil Rights procedures his eyes kept flickering over to the brightly coloured cover of Wild Fire. Of course he'd rather be reading that book instead of the many text books infront of him.
Finishing off the chapter that dealt with the violations on the civil rights, Chris leaned on the table fully and stared at the novel he truely wanted to read. Another chapter won't hurt He thought to himself. Figuring that logic was good logic he went to move for the book. But before he actually made any noticable movement he heard a female voice.
Chris turned his head upwards in the direction that the voice came from and noticed an unfamiliar brunette. Welcoming the break from the many words on the book he smiled up at her before he spoke, "It is a wonderful series, isn't?" He said as he leaned himself off the table top and into a more relaxed and comfortable position in his chair. Then added, "No need to apologize" Chris said warmly.

Maybe it wasn't all that weird to be complimenting someone on a book they were reading. Considering they were in a library. A library was, after all, a book haven. It was a place where those who loved and/or needed books of all sorts would gather and unite in their never-ending quest for words. It was actually a place that Melissa felt at home. Safe. This may have been the reason she'd gotten the courage to talk to a complete stranger. It was almost as if he was in her house, and it was only natural to talk to your guests.
Of course he would want to read a book like Wild Fire over a boring text book. Especially one about law. Those could probably get quite monotonous. All those laws and rules and things. Melissa was often guilty of slacking off of her studies because she was too busy reading something recreational. When she read time went by much faster than she could have imagined, and before she knew it, she had no more time to study. The world was tricky like that.
"It is." she agreed with a slightly larger smile. Well, at least he seemed like a nice guy. You never could tell with the students around here. Most of them were rich, after all. "Oh. Well, I wasn't sure how you felt about random strangers approaching you. Some people have a tendancy to overreact. Not to say that you look like an overreacting type of person. Though, I don't know if there is a specific look for that. Snobbish might be the look. But, sometimes you can't even tell about them. I guess that judging a book by it's cover phrase comes in here. It really is-" she stopped herself, realizing that was rambling. She could feel the warm of a blush on her cheeks, signaling that she had embarrased herself. Wow. She was pulling all kinds of crazy things right now. She must have been more tired than she thought.
"Sorry." she said to him for the second time in two minutes.

Chris almost sighed in relief. It wasn't that he didn't want to study, or rather that he hated it. No that wasn't the case. It just wasn't the right time to be doing it, and that was evident by the fact that he hadn't got anywhere near as much as he wanted accomplished tonight. So inlight of all this he welcomed the new face. Though the liking of the same book was also a plus.
Chris wasn't the type of person to verbally attack someone because he was studying. If he didn't want to be bothered he'd just study at his apartment. Though he couldn't garentee that he'd get more accomplished there or not.
He kept his attention on the girl while she talked. Chris smiled as she continued on her little bit of a ramble, which he didn't mind at all. Though by the change in her cheek skin tone, he figured she must have realized that she was going on and on. He laughed quietly, almost a chuckle when she gave him her second apology in their small time frame of meeting. He smiled at her, "You don't need to apologize, it's fine really" He said then added, "I enjoy little encounters with strangers every once in a while. Especially when my study attempts are failing misserably" He said with a slight gesture to the texts books on the table in front of them.

Melissa liked studying sometimes. But then, there were times when she'd rather be doing other things. It was only normal for someone her age to not wanto to be studying and working all the time. Right now was a prime example. It was late. She probably shouldn't have come down here right now. If she knew herself, and she was fairly sure she did, she wouldn't be getting much studying done.
The girl wasn't one to attack anyone verbal or otherwise for something like this. She liked getting breaks in between studying. Especially if the person interupting her was someone she knew. Because then she could chat with them for a while. But, it seems that that was what she was doing right now, anyway. It was better than having her nose stuck in a textbook. She liked human contact better than that.
Melissa blushed even deeper as the boy laughed, unsure of whether he was laughing at her in a bad or a good way. "Oh." said, not sure of what else to say to that. He was nice. That was good. At least he wasn't making fun of her or something ridiculous like that.
She gave her own smile, the red fading from her cheeks a bit. "I know what you mean. Studying can get a bit dull sometimes. I'm not even sure why I came down here to start so late, anyway."

Chris, even though he wasn't one to mind studying, infact he liked that he grades were kept up and prefered for it to stay that way. Studying wasn't necessarily something out of the ordinary for him, though doing it this late in the library was, usually he stuck to daytiem studying.
The fact that the study break had come at the time that it did, slighlty after nine at night, Chris knew he wouldn't be hitting the books any more tonight. Which he was fine for. He wasn't exactly studying for a test but more making mental notes so he wouldn't have to cram later on.
Chris noticed that the red in her cheeks depleted some as she spoke. He chuckled slighlty, "Dull on a good day" He said with a smile. It was never anything exciting for him to be studying. "Because it seemed like a good thing to do at the time" He offere up. That was usually the case with him, when he did something he didn't really know why he did it.
