Ari smiled a genuine, even though small, smile. "Thanks. That would mean a whole lot to me." She took another sip through her straw. Well wasn't she feeling rather human today? She had said all that to someone who, though they shared DNA, was a stranger to her. Those were things she had only ever told Sofia. Who knew, maybe they could get along on some level.
Feeling the need to change the mood of the air, Ari returned to Halloween. "So, what are you going as for this party? I kind of think the dressing up thing is silly. I haven't worn a costume since I was really little." Mother thought the whole charade of trick-or-treating and wearing masks was silly and childish. Ari was supposed to be an adult. Sh was kind of afraid of wearing something lame and being ridiculed for the rest of her college career. The question was to hopefully get an idea as to what was 'okay' for a college student to wear. Last year she had sat the party out.

"No problem…" It wasn't like he was doing her a big favor and so she had no reason to thank him. That was just the kinda guy he was and even though he hated her he wasn't going to completely deny her a family. He was the favorite and he didn't even know it until this moment that left him a feeling of guilt instead of hate.
"Oh well this is a fun one… I am going as Hugh Hefner… Dad even got Hef to let me borrow one of his smoking jackets, a pipe, a pair of his signature black silk PJs, and he even gave me some copies of playboy. Pretty crazy right… Dad knows the Hugh Hefner…" Maybe she would find it as interesting as he did then again he was a guy and even though he was old Hef was an icon.
"What are you going as?"

Ari was really impressed by her brother’s costume. “Seriously? Our father has those kinds of connections? Wow.” She sipped her drink, tapping her nails against the plastic. “So Hugh Hefner? That’s quite a person to be. How many bunnies are you going with?” For a moment she entertained the thought of going as a playboy bunny before she remembered she had already put together a costume.
“I’m going as a water spite. It’s kind of lame, I know, but I think I can pull it off and look alright.” She knew that a mystical creature of nature wasn’t really what anyone would expect of her. They probably assumed she’d go as Paris Hilton or some other fashionista. Honestly though, how would that be any different than her daily life, minus the scandals? Plus she kind of was getting into this “green” thing, as Ethan called it. Maybe she was just into Ethan. “I even made the costume myself.” She smiled.

"Yeah well he does now…" Giving her a little smile he looked down at the table not really sure what to do or say next. This was a pretty bum meeting and there wasn't much you could do to entertain yourself in a coffee shop, that was probably why he wanted the meeting here then thinking that it wouldn't lat long. "Umm so far three… but I want to see if I can get more."
Ollie had to bite his tongue at the next comment that she made as it was completely out of left field. "A water spite? Why?" It was a stupid costume and he was sure that everyone would probably make fun of her, not that Ari Porter didn't deserve it. After all she didn't get the reputation of being the bitchier Porter for no reason. Yeah Ollie had a lot to make up for but he was trying. "Okay well if you don't want a lame costume you can always be a bunny…"

Ari flinched at Oliver’s comment about her costume and his offer to let her be a bunny. She’d just show him, wouldn’t she? “Why? Because people believe they are the guardians of all the water on earth. They are beautiful but spiteful creatures. It may be lame but they protect three-fifths of our planet. Why would I go as a sex symbol when I could be something that actually stands for something?” She shook her head and finished off her drink. Great, now what was she supposed to do?
She glanced down at her phone, Sofia would be done in a few minutes, and she might as well start heading back. “I should probably start heading back to the bookstore. Sofia might leave me if I’m late.” She stood up and pulled her purse strap onto her shoulder. “I’ll see you at the party then. You’ve got a really great costume, Oliver. I’m proud of you.” She smiled. “Maybe we can do this again sometime if you’re up for it.”

"Yeah if you believe in that sort of thing…" Oliver said as a counter as he took out his phone to check the time. This was ridiculous as they couldn't be in the same room with each other without arguing. How the hell were they supposed to bond? "Funny you've never cared about standing for anything in your life why start now? You know if you want to make a difference why don't you go to the Boys and Girls Club of America? You know that way you can find yourself some family that doesn't care if you abandoned them." Ollie was back to being his spiteful self as he got up form the table grabbing his messenger bag only to sling it over his shoulder as he pushed the chair in with the side of his hip.
"Oh yeah because this first time meeting was so fun…" Rolling his eyes he started to walk away but not before getting in one last snide comment. "It is easy to be proud of someone when you know nothing about them… congratulations sis." There was the same coldness back in his tone that he had started out the meeting with as he made his way towards the front of the Starbucks only to open the door and walk outside. The meetings had gone great and he would never do that again.
