[just to clarify the area] Saturday, September 19 2009 Shhffsskk, shhffsskk, Clack! There is something so relaxing about the sound of a deck of fresh cards being riffled. Aiden sat in the floor of his apartment behind the coffee table which was between the pristine soft leather couch and his 52 inch plasma screen tv. Shhffsskk, shhffsskk, Clack! Distracted by his new cards and deliberating whether or not he should be studying for his Monday classes, he was completely oblivious to the fact that someone was knocking on his front door until he heard her voice yelling from the other side to let her in. A crooked smirk danced across his face as he set his cards down and rose to his feet, which by the way were covered by miss-matched white and green socks. So studying is out of the question. He thought to himself as he soon remembered his plans to have a movie marathon with his best friend, Sofia, and a few others. Sofia always came over early on occasions such as this to help Aiden clean up his haphazard apartment. Despite the fact that he hates complete organization he doesn't prefer to look like a slob in front of those who just don't quite understand like her... Just before he got to the door reality caught up with him and he realized the fact that he was wearing only socks and a pair of cotton pajama pants patterned with playing cards. He bolted back to the master bedroom to grab a t-shirt. Of course the only t-shirt he could reach in such a short time was the white-tee on top of his dirty clothes hamper. The same white tee he had gotten BBQ sauce on two days earlier. He quickly tried to turn it right-side out as he walked briskly to the door. He unbolted the lock as he put his arms through the sleeves. "Its unlocked." He said as he scrambled to try to get his shirt on all the way before she opened the door.

Sofia was trying her best not to drop the bags resting in her arms and the stack of DVDs she somehow had balenced against a hip. She had called her boy approximately twenty minutes ago to tell him to wake his lazy self up and unlock the door. That was not a hard task, but it seems that Aiden somehow only accomplished half of it. "Houdini! I swear to god if you are playing with cards and not unlocking this door I will shread them!" It was the best threat for the situation since Aiden Tyler would never let anything happen to his precious cards.
Using a perfected foot flick, the girl with loaded arms managed to swing the door open and see the man of her life, aside from her father, standing in the foyer with a shirt half on. "There is no reason to cover those scrumptious abs Aiden, really. If you wanted to keep a girlie around you would just have to walk shirtless. All the time." The smirk she shot was teasing and old with jokes. Aiden was the first person Sofia met, aside from Arianna, and he was her best friend. Ari was a great girlfriend and fashion consultant, but Aiden was everything else. Sofia's baby blues caught sight of something odd with the boy's hastily added tee. "Um, Houdini....how did you get bar-ba-que sauce on the inside of your shirt?"
Moving through the apartment with the ease that came from spending a lot of time there she looked around and sighed. "How one boy gets this place so dirty I will never understand. You are lucky I left Ari at campus, she would be having a heart attack. We just cleaned last week." After setting down the bags on the counter space that was avalible Sofia went over and wrapped her taller friend in a tight embrace. "You seem to be magical in more ways than cards darling."

"You're right, I have magical hugs!" He said as he put his arms around her and picked her up a little ways off the ground as he embraced her tightly. A thought gnawed at the back of his mind, but he pushed it back down. He set her down and with one arm still around her her pulled at the stain on his shirt with the other. "Oh this?...Magic." he laughed at his lame little joke. 'Magic' was his answer to everything he did that he either did not want to explain, or simply couldn't. Real magic is the way I feel around her.... "Oh, and no mentioning these," he pointed to his abs, "to anyone, especially Ari..Or any girl for that matter." He didn't particularly like all the attention his abdominal muscles drew to him, but then again, sometimes it wasn't half bad.
"What movies did you bring?" He asked as he sifted through the grocery bags Sofia had set on the counter, scavenging for something remotely close to a breakfast food. Finding nothing buy snack foods and drinks, he padded further into the kitchen to the pantry. "Can I interest you in some homemade pancakes? I stir the batter you do the rest." He said with a sflirtatious wink.

"I hate to break it to you kid, but you aren't Harry Potter. You are going to have to give me real answers sometime." She eyed his shirt once he put her down, "Does this mean you need me to do some laundry? Is it another week where you forgot?" The two had an almost domestic routine to their lives. On weekends Sofia pretty much lived at Aiden's apartment unless there was a game. The guest room was even decorated for her, as a surprise for her birthday last semester. When Sofia came over she inevitably spent time cleaning and doing some laundry.
The blonde darling gave her best friend's abs a good rub and chuckled softly at Aiden's ticklish grimace. "They are your secret weapon. If I told anyone I would have to share you with some clingy girl and I would be out of half a maid job. Your laundry would cut by half because someone else would want you to go around shirtless." She watched as he sifted through her shopping bags and shook her head delicately. Sofia never understood why the man in mismatched socks and silly pants was so self concious about something so normal and good, but didn't care that his outfit looked rather ridiculous.
'Always thinking of his stomach, that one.' It was a fond thought, but a truthful one. "I will cook if you change into something normal. Althought those pants are adoreable, I don't think you want all your buddies seeing them."

"Harry Potter can kiss my ass." He smirked at his own cleverness. Her hand left a trail of tingles through his skin. "Ok, I'll go put on clothes, then I have something to show you." He walked out of the room to change and get cleaned up. He threw on a pair of dark wash jeans that fit snugly around his bum and a little loser around the bottom of his legs. He rummaged through his dresser to find a shirt, though there wasn't much to rummage through. 'That girl knows me too well..' Indeed, she did know him well. As she has predicted, he needed to do laundry. He pulled out one of his many card tees and pulled it on. Today it was the kind of hearts, his favorite card.
He brushed his teeth and washed his face in his bathroom, trying not to take too much time getting cleaned up, as he knew Sofia would have a field day if he spent longer getting ready than she had. Not that she needs that much time to look amazing.' He glanced in the mirror at his bedhead hair, 'Not too shabby. he thought t himself. He wet his palms in the sink and tousled his hair around a bit just to spruce up his tousled look a bit. Before leaving his room he grabbed an armful of dirty clothes and threw them in the washer down the hall with some detergent and started the wash cycle.
"Its ok to put reds with whites right?" he asked jokingly as he walked into the living room and picked up his cards from the coffee table. He flinched a little at the look Sofia shot him with those beautiful baby-blues. "I'm just kidding!" He started shuffling the cards. Shhffsskk, shhffsskk, Clack! "Are you ready to see some real magic?"

Sofia watched Aiden saunter off lazily towards his bedroom suite. That boy would be the death of her, she supposed. He was just too...too much sometimes. Always with the magic and the jokes and sarcasm. Always giving her a half a second of a weird look before a real smile or laugh appeared. Her thoughts consumed her as pancake batter was mixed and a griddle heated on the stove top. A few seconds passed and the silence gave way to the sizzle of heating bubbling batter.
Letting the pancakes sit, Sof survied the area before her. There wasn't much cleaning since just Ari and some people Aiden knew were coming over to catch a couple of movies. Mainly the weekends were uniterrupted studying, being a guinea pig for magic tricks, and doing loads of laundry. Simple easy days between friends. "Geez, take all day getting ready." The thin discs of golden brown were being stacked on a plate before Mr. Magic even reappeared.
Sofia was standing at the sink rinsing off the cookware when Aiden's question came ringing through the house like a high pitched ping of something sharp hitting metal. "Tell me you did not..." Her eyes were sharp as daggers, and they barely eased when Aiden admitted to joking. Sometimes when he thought he was funny....well, it wasn't. "Here's your pancakes." The plate and pitcher of homemade syrup was passed to Aiden. This particular breakfast was one of Sofia's specialties, something Aiden found out soon after they met and started spending weekends together. "Are you coming to the volleyball game Tuesday? It is our first home game. Dad said he can't come." The girl sat across the dining room table from her friend, watching him eat. There was that half a second of weirdness again, just when his eyes met hers.

Aiden locked eyes with Sofia across the glass table causing a mildly awkward moment as he realized he kept eye contact for a few seconds too long. He swallowed the huge bite pf pancake in his mouth and replied, "I wouldn't miss it for the world...If you promise not to ask me how i do this new trick." He loved to set double standards because she knew he would never stick to it because he always requested the impossible. It was almost like him saying a 'stupid answer for a stupid question'. He unconsciously tugged at the sweat band he wore on his wrist everyday, more for card trick purposed than style. He had several different ones, all decorated by cards, but for more formal settings he has a thin white one, thin enough to easily fit underneath the cuff of a dress shirt. Hey, you never know when a banquet will get lame and he has to use a few of the tricks he has 'up his sleeve'...Literally.
Despite the fact that Sofia frowned at his request, he began his presentation anyway, riffling his cards.Shhffsskk, shhffsskk, Clack!p "You ready?" He asked as he stood up. Shhffsskk, shhffsskk, Clack! Acting as if he were a famous magician on stage he began announcing his trick. "Ladies and Gentlemen, kids of all ages, gather round to witness the wonder of The King of Cards!" He tried to stifle a laugh as Sofia laughed out loud. "Do not laugh my pretty lady, for what you are about to witness will shock you! Those that are faint of heart---" He couldn't hold it in any longer he let out a chuckle and continued, "may want to leave the room." He held up his cards and fanned them out for her to see every card and its face, "You see here, i have a normal deck of cards, no trick cards." He quickly pulled them back into a stack. "I am going to shuffle the cards like this, please be my witness, pretty lady, that I am just shuffling the cards." Sofia rolled her eyes and smiled, but watched none the less. He sometimes wondered why she put up with his foolish antics. He sliced the deck and shuffled the cards together three times. "Now I am going to riffle through them until you say stop. Ready?" He held the stack in one hand and pulled the front of the stack back with the other, releasing just enough pressure so that the cards fluttered quickly, but not too quickly down. He ceased the riffle when Sofia said stop. He removed the top half of the stack, "Take the top card," She did as he said, " now do not show it to me. but show it to your audience." He covered his eyes, showing that he would not try to sneak a peek at her card. He turned his back to her and held out the two stacks of cards behind his back. "Now please place the card back into the deck." Again she did as he asked. "Now take the deck out of my hands." When he knew she had the deck he turned around. "I will now--uungherm..Sorry I seem to have something-erm, caught in my throat." He began to clear his throat, which didn't seem to help any, he began to cough violently, he keeled over hands on his knees, giving the appearance that he was choking.
Sofia looked concerned, just as she want to get out of her chair to help him, he put his hand up signaling that he would be ok. He stood up and coughed and gagged one last time, whatever had been stuck in his throat peeped through his lips. His eyes got wide as he tried to look at what was in his mouth. he reached his hand to his lips and pulled out the thin rectangle cut piece of paper with rounded edges and a regal red background. He unfolded the card and showed it to her. "Is this your card?"

Her head shook at his request, "I can't promise not to ask. Even when I promise I ask anyway." Her smile was wide, "But I always play better when you are there, so you will be rewarded for coming by me kicking volleyball ass and then getting a sweaty hug at the end of the game. Show me the trick though!" Sofia knew that most people saw Aiden's infatuation with card tricks as a petty nerdy thing, but the truth is that Sofia was almost as infatuated as he was. When she became the test subject for a new trick she was almost giddy with excitement.
Sitting a little taller she almost burst out laughing as Aiden began his side show. The laughter did come rolling out at the announcement of his stage name. "King? Cards?" It was funnier because she knew what his favorite card was. As soon as the trick started he had her rapt attention, all laughter stopped. Cards twisted and flipped as they were shuffled. The sound was a comfort to her after hearing it almost constantly in the past two years. When her friend commanded, she took the card and looked. The three of clubs. "Three club, three club." The whisper was near silent, spoken only so Sofia could remember her card. After sliding it back into the deck her attention focused on his hands. She was watching for a card slip. She knew that happened sometimes with some of the secrets Aiden did let her in on.
Confused, Sofia took the deck. There was no trick yet. He had only showed the pledge. He hadn't even really shown the turn of the trick yet, the deck of cards was just a deck. Then Aiden started choking. "Aiden? Are you alright?" Sofia watched, hating the interruption to the trick. The her best friend went down on hands and knees and looked like he was dying. Right as Sofia was about to fly to her feet and call 911 since her friend was obviously gagging on some unknown object and could be moments away from death, a hand came up and motioned for her to be seated. Unsure of what was going on she sat in the chair and watched, moments away from grabbing the phone and calling an ambulence or the looney bin.
When Aiden pulled the card from his lips, Sofia gasped. When the card showed and was the three of clubs she almost dropped the deck of cards in her hands. Then she looked up at Aiden. "That is the prestige. You vomited my card. That is....oh my god. Aiden Tyler! I thought you were dying and it was the prestige of the trick? That was amazing!" Her eyes were sparkling wide as she chuckled. After setting the deck of cards safely on the table a hand went up for a hi-five. "That is one of the coolest tricks you have ever done."

Aiden bore his pearly whites in his biggest, goofiest smile as he wiped his hands on his jeans. "Thank you, thank you. It was nothing really." he said, sheepishly scratching the back of his head, for once being modest about a new trick that went over well with Sofia. He shook his head and smiled at the praise he was given, the best trick he had ever done she said, he was bursting at the seems with joy that the trick had gone off without a hitch. He had practiced the trick for a whole week to get it perfect. Well, practiced his performance anyway, the trick itself was easy, a duplicate card and a deceptive shuffle to get the card you wanted picked off the top of the deck, this trick was not about skill with handling the cards, it was about showman ship. Actually making your audience believe that you regurgitated their card, making them believe that you were actually choking on THEIR card. If you couldn't make them believe you were choking for real, the trick was a bust. Thankfully, he had pulled it off, it helped that he had just scarfed down some pancakes probably. He would keep that in mind next time he did the trick, Have food on hand when I debut the trick. "So, you think its ready to debut to a bigger audience?" he asked, raising his eyebrows with excitement. 'When is everyone getting here anyway?"

Her eyes twinkled as Aiden talked about debuting his trick. It was always exciting to know she was the first to see a trick and have it done to her. There was something undenyably special about the knowledge that Aiden trusted her with this, that he knew she would give him honest response to the magic tricks.
"I think that one is ready. Do it in the middle of lunch or something. All the food will make it seem a little more surprising. People will think it is just about lunch, and then BAM! Cards." She reached over and squeezed his shoulder, "Finish your pancakes. I will clean the kitchen babe."
After checking her BlackBerry, which Aiden called her "deceptive RedBerry" for the color, she hummed as she went to work organizing the kitchen. It was mostly putting things back in place and running a Lysol Antibacterial Wipe over everything. "I don't know when all the people you invited are coming over. I know Ari will be here in about two hours and she was talking about bringing some boy she found in the library the other day. I don't know." She easily balenced an armload of dishes with one arm and tossed him a wet rag with the other, "Clean your table boy. Although, speaking of, who did you invite? I didn't know you had other friends." The last statement was spoken with a wink and tone of jest.

He caught the rag and laid it on the table, picking up his plate and fork with his free hand and walking them over to the sink. "Um..." He thought out loud as he walked to the table and began wiping it down. "You, obviously, Ari, and my brothers. I don't know if they are coming though. So it might just end up being us, Ari and her boy I guess. Unless there was anyone else you wanted to invite last minute."

Sofia's eyebrow quirked at his lack of invitees. Between the two of them, Aiden was more likely to be the life of the party. He was the one who took Sofia away from her books and practices and put her in social settings. He made sure she had a life. Now was she going to have to make sure he didn't lose friends? Her body moved her towards the living room while her mind whirled. Aiden had originally said today was going to be a big deal with a lot of people, what was up?
"Well, I did meet a guy the other day. He was really sweet and he bartered me for a date off a basketball game. It was fun to flirt with him." Her words were scattered as she dipped and stood to throw clothes into different piles, pick up trash, and make stacks of used dishes. "This is disgusting Aiden Tyler, sometimes I think you are a pig. But the name of the guy is Ian. Ian Roberts I think. He is pretty in that muscular manly way."

Aiden picked up his cards and sat on the couch, knowing that if he touched any bit of the mess Sofia was cleaning up he would get scolded, she would say he would only make a bigger mess. "Pretty?" He laughed, "Men aren't pretty, the correct term would be handsome." He laughed, then he seemed to get a little tense, "So a date and he's fun to flirt with...You have a crush don't you?" He tried not to cut some of the edge off of his tone by adding his joking smirk to his facial expression which bordered concern.

Sofia shook her head and dismissed his jealous edge as something akin to protective of her. "No, I don't think this is a crush. I talked to Ari about the boy and was informed that he is a grade-A allstar player." Her smile was sweet, "I know better than to get all involved with that and be some mark on the bedroom wall." Hating to be idel, she started to move around and clean the living room.
She carefully studied her friend out of the corner of her eye. "How does one boy get so dirty, seriously? It is like I just need to live over here to keep you in line babe. You are a mess." She swept by him to go for the vaccuum cleaned and laid a kiss on his forehead, not noticing how still he became. "Maybe we should call Craig and Crissy from across the street. Criag is cute and nice, I like him."

Relief washed over him as she spoke of being smarter than to fall for a 'player'. He continued to shuffle his deck of cards as she hastily tidied up his living space, but nearly began a game of 52 card pick-up when she said she should just move in with him. True it would make some things easier, but it would make a few things much, much more difficult. He soon became lost in thought of what it would be like to have Sofia living with him, the movie marathons, the late night celebrations over defeated sports rivals...Just being close to her as much as he possibly could, maybe that would make it easier for him to find the perfect moment to let her know how he felt about her.
"Maybe we should call Craig and Crissy from across the street. Craig is cute and nice, I like him." Aiden racked his brain, Craig and Crissy? Sounds familiar but..Oh well. Racking his brain he tried to remember is he had met them before. He probably had but had more than likely been too wrapped up in his own little world to remember. "Sure, that sounds cool. When is Ari getting here? I want to freak her out with my new trick." A devilish smirk creped onto his face, Ari hated gross things, and in Ari's book throwing up was disgusting, so he was pretty sure regurgitating a playing card would fall into her category of things to be disgusted at. He couldn't wait to see the look on her face.
